Why reinventing?

Our mission at Moga Software is to bring innovative software solutions to the market. SeaView MOSAIC was released in 2018 with a specific goal: to bring modern computing to the SSS processing world. Processing time is a key factor to improve productivity and reduce time to delivery. Thanks to its speed SeaView can handle SSS datasets at full resolution providing the best image quality possible. Its fast image processing engine allowed us to implement interactive editing tools that make mosaic editing easier and more accurate.

But what drives innovation? Can we simply focus on technical aspects? The answer is obviously no. The landscape in which we operate may change at any time posing new challenges. So for us at Moga Software being innovative means being able to provide the right answers at the right times, adapting to our clients' needs.

What to expect from 2021?

It is clear that unmanned systems and remote operations will play a big role in 2021: in a world where we deal with travel restrictions and lockdowns the option to have onshore personnel working remotely is the best solution. However, unmanned surveys may pose some new challenges, especially when dealing with data management and processing.

Unmanned surveys

Data management can be challenging when dealing with AUV systems. Backscatter data is usually split into many smaller files and navigation is recorded separately. This means some dedicated tools are required to merge SSS data and navigation. In Seaview, this is done quickly for the entire dataset with its batch import tools. Navigation accuracy is also an issue. Acoustic positioning methods suffer from sudden accuracy losses causing jumps and other major artifacts. SeaView provides some excellent tools for navigation processing and interactive editing, but manual editing requires an accurate positioning reference. SeaView 3.0 introduces a new visualization and editing mode that integrates SSS and MBES data while preserving interactivity. Users can edit SSS lines individually while draping the entire mosaic onto a 3D bathymetric mesh. Using visualization tools such as transparency and spotlight users can match features on both datasets quickly and easily.

Remote operations

In SeaView 3.0 we improved the mosaic output engine adding new compression schemes and providing a new tile-based output. These features permit faster data transfers between offshore vessels and onshore offices.

Another important aspect to take into account when dealing with remote operations is software license management. What if we need to transfer a license from one office to another? Shipping hardware dongles is slow and costly. SeaView does not require hardware dongles to run, so licenses can be transferred easily over the internet, in just a few seconds.

Using modern processing software like SeaView, designed with innovation in mind, is the key to quickly adapt to unforeseen challenges.
